Absolutely right Alan. Advocacy for tobacco harm reduction is a team, not an individual effort. Most new interventions for drug harm reduction are bitterly resisted and for long periods. But eventually they get adopted, implemented, often get expanded to scale, and often greatly appreciated as effective, safe and cost-effective ways of responding to problems that cannot just be eradicated. This is what happened with methadone treatment, needle syringe programs, naloxone distribution, drug consumption rooms and drug testing. And this is the pattern being followed by vaping, heated tobacco products, snus and nicotine pouches which are rapidly replacing combustible cigarettes globally. Even though this replacement is now inevitable and unstoppable, it’s important that it happens as quickly as possible because with ~8 million global smoking deaths/year, small differences in time will translate into many lives being saved.

Your Daily (as a minimum) offerings are always an excellent thought-provoking read Alan, long may they continue. Fgs don't get discouraged, I appreciate that it's really far from easy in your home country, but your writing is incredibly useful for everyone, wherever they are located.....having universal appeal and application.

Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words they really do mean a lot.

It can sometimes feel like pushing against the tide, but messages like yours remind me why it’s worth continuing. Knowing that the work resonates with people beyond my own country and has value across different places and perspectives is genuinely encouraging.
